GOLF INSTRUCTION TIPS a Balanced Posture

You know all to well what it feels like to hit a fat shot (hitting the ground behind the ball) and a thin shot (striking near the ball’s equator).

But do you know why they happen? These golf instruction tips for a more balanced posture will help you to alleviate these problems.

Most fat and thin shots occur for the same reason: The body moves away from the target during the downswing.

On a fat shot, your body usually falls onto your back foot as the club returns to the ball. This often happens because you tilted toward the target during the backswing. Falling back is a compensation. And more often than not, you over compensate.

Thin shots are similar. Your upper body usually lifts during the downswing because you instinctively try to compensate for it dipping in the backswing. Thin or even topped shots occur when you pull up too much as you approach impact.

Golf Instruction Tip- Load up and Stay Tall

The solution to these problems starts with a solid set up for straight shots and posture: ball opposite your left armpit, knees flexed, chin up, and spine tilted forward from the hips, an athletic stance. Don’t get caught up in trying to “stay down” or “keep your eye on the ball,” as this will drop your chin to your chest and restrict shoulder turn.

Tip 3 Ball opposite left armpit ( for driver)

Tip 4 Weight moves to inside of foot

Tip 5 Shoulders and torso rotate back together.

During the backswing, turn your upper body away from the target as your weight moves to the inside of your back foot. At the top of the swing, your back leg should support most of your weight and your front (left shoulder if you are right handed, or right shoulder if you are a leftie) shoulder should point behind the ball.

If you can reach this position, you won’t have to compensate to return the club solidly to the ball.

Always try to maintain a relaxed and balanced posture at set up and adopt a firm golf grip and you will be a good part of the way to a solid swing.
